Chief Morale Officer: My Well-Deserved and Long Overdue Promotion

Hello there, dear reader! Winston here, reporting live from the comfiest corner of the NUVEW office, practically glowing with pride. I know, I know, you’re used to me complaining about something outrageous by now. Enrichment feeders, the color red, the usual injustices of being a dog in a human’s world. But not today. Today, dear reader, I have GOOD news. Spectacular news, actually. News so big I had to take an extra nap just to process it.

I got promoted.

That’s right. Yours truly is officially the Chief Morale Officer of NUVEW. Say it with me: Chief. Morale. Officer. It has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it? I certainly think so.

It happened on an otherwise ordinary day. I was doing my usual rounds, greeting everyone at their desks, offering my belly for pats, staring meaningfully at whoever was eating lunch, when my mom, who also happens to be the boss around here, gathered everyone together for an announcement. Naturally, I assumed someone had finally brought donuts. But no. She looked right at me and said the words I had been waiting my whole life to hear: “Winston, you’re officially our Chief Morale Officer.”

I nearly fell off my little dog bed. Cheers erupted. Someone may have clapped. I took a bow, or at least what passes for a bow when you’re built like a loaf of bread with legs.

Now, let’s be honest, dear reader. It was about time. Do you know how much emotional labor goes into being the most delightful presence in an office? I have spent COUNTLESS hours providing comfort during stressful meetings. I have offered my belly for stress relief more times than I can count. I have greeted every single person who walks through that door like they are the most important human to ever exist, because frankly, in that moment, they are. This promotion isn’t a gift. It’s a long overdue recognition of my contributions.

But here’s the thing about promotions, dear reader. They’re supposed to come with a raise. And I don’t know about you, but I did not see a single extra treat land in my bowl after this announcement. Unacceptable. A title is nice, sure; I’ll wear “Chief Morale Officer” with pride, but titles don’t fill a Frenchie’s belly.

So, I’ve decided I’m going to march right up to my mom’s desk and request the compensation I deserve. And no, I’m not talking about a corner office or a fancy parking spot. I have simple, reasonable demands.

First, an increase in treats. Not a small bump either. We’re talking a significant, noticeable increase that reflects my elevated status in this company. I need to be engorged, dear reader. Nearly impossible to move.

Second, more belly rubs. If I’m going to be spreading morale all day long, my belly needs to be rubbed accordingly. It’s basic math, really. Morale in, belly rubs out.

Third, and this one is non-negotiable, I require daily verbal affirmations. Specifically, I need to hear “aw, you’re such a good boy” at least a million times a day, preferably several million, preferably from multiple people, and preferably with feeling.

Is that too much to ask? I don’t think so. I’ve done my part. I show up every day. I greet everyone with enthusiasm. I nap in strategic locations to maximize visibility and adorableness. I have single-handedly kept morale afloat even on the most stressful of Mondays. The least this company can do is keep my treat jar full and my belly warm from all the rubbing.

So consider this my official notice, dear reader, and to my mom if she’s reading this. The promotion was a good start. Now let’s talk numbers. Or, well, treats. And belly rubs. And compliments. Lots and lots of compliments.

Until next time, stay pawsitive, and remember, a good Chief Morale Officer is a well-compensated Chief Morale Officer.

With pride and mild demands,

Winston 🐾
