How to Analyze Facebook Data to Understand Your Audience

Facebook continues to be the largest and most popular social media platform in the world. Which means that if your brand isn’t using Facebook or/and doesn’t have a Facebook marketing strategy, it isn’t maximizing its marketing efforts. At NUVEW, we understand the importance of not only using Facebook as a marketing tool, but also analyzing Facebook data to better understand your audience and then sharpen your marketing efforts. Here’s what you should know–

Facebook Data: The Basics of Insights

Before we dive into how to analyze Facebook data, it’s important to understand what types of data even exist. The data Facebook makes available to brands is called “Insights,” and there are two types of insights:

  • Page insights. Page insights are pretty straightforward, and provide data about your Facebook page. With page insights, you can see which pages are performing well and which pages aren’t.
  • Audience insights. Audience insights are exactly what they sound like–insights into your audience, including who’s viewing your page and interacting with your content.

Using Facebook Data to Reach Your Target Audience

To use audience insights effectively, you need to start by creating a business page–you won’t have access to audience insights otherwise. Then, head to audience insights, which is located in the “analyze and report” section of “tools” on your business page menu.

Now, you can start to dive deep into the data. Begin by filtering your audience based on “everyone” (everyone on Facebook) or “people connected to your page.” Then, start filtering your goals based on age, gender, location, page connections, and interests. Each of these can be important depending on your brand and who your target audience is. For example, if you want to open a new physical shop but aren’t sure where, location data can help you to determine where your target audience lives. Or, if your product targets people of a certain age or gender (for example, moms ages 25-45), then you can filter to reach that gender and age range.
