Reduce, Reuse… Relieve?

Hello, dear readers! It’s Winston here, your fiercely fabulous French Bulldog, once again gracing your screens with a unique nugget of my delightful life. And this week? Oh, it’s a big one. Earth Day is this Wednesday and, naturally, it got me thinking. I may be adorable, but am I eco-friendly?

Now, let’s all agree: Earth Day is paws-itively magnificent. Even if I don’t quite understand why humans need a specially marked day to care about their planet (shouldn’t they care about it every day?), I’m 100% on board with the vibes. Saving the Earth for future French Bulldogs (and, sure, other species I suppose) feels like a worthy cause. That being said, how exactly is a thumb-less dog like me supposed to contribute? I spent all week woofing up some ideas.

First, I thought about volunteering my superior digging skills to aerate the soil in the yard. Seems helpful, right? But then I remembered, I don’t do mud. Mud is gross, and I have a shiny, pristine coat to maintain. Next! I considered sniffing out trash on my walks. But seriously, what do you expect me to do once I find it? Pick it up with my mouth? Absolutely not. No amount of praise or treats will convince me to parade around with a soggy soda can between my teeth. Some lines simply cannot be crossed.

My humans suggested I could lie in the sun to cut back on heating energy. Great idea… except it’s the Midwest, and the weather here is about as predictable as my zoomies post-bath. I tried it for a while, but when the clouds rolled in, I was shivering like a leaf. If I go full frostbite for the planet, nobody wins, least of all me.

After all this brainstorming, I was starting to think I might be the least helpful Earth Day participant on the planet. And then… epiphany! Well, okay, full disclosure: I sniffed something in the yard, got distracted, and, how do I put this delicately, nature called. Right there, amidst the lawn and flowers, my big idea blossomed. I’ll fertilize the grass! Brilliant, right? Eco-friendly and effortlessly on brand. But I didn’t stop at just one “donation.” No, no, no. When Winston has an idea, he commits.

To really make an impact, I decided it would be a high-fiber kind of day. I barked my order for a bowl of the fibery-est kibble money could buy and scarfed that delicious Earth-saving meal. After everything was properly digested, well, let’s just say I made multiple generous contributions to the yard. My humans were less enthusiastic about this initiative, but I figure they just don’t yet see the brilliance in my plan.

So there you have it, dear reader. Earth Day turned out a SUCCESS. Sure, I may not have planted trees or cleaned rivers, but I did my part Frenchie-style. And that’s a message I want to leave you with: Everyone can do something. Even if it’s small. Even if it’s, uh, biodegradable.

Next time you see a patch of extra-green grass, think of ol’ Winston and know that you, too, can make a lasting (and fertilizing) impact on this beautiful planet we call home.

Until next week, keep being fabulous, keep loving the Earth, and never forget: globetrotting glory begins in your own backyard. Or, in my case, right in the middle of it.

With love and… well, other eco-friendly stuff,

Winston 🐾
