Cooking, Cooking All Day Long

Hello, dear readers. Apologies for the curt greeting this week, but it has come to my attention that after I so eagerly shared some of my favorite meals with you in hopes of elevating your culinary scope, many of you felt the need to criticize my diet. While I appreciate the concern, let me set the record straight.

Yes, I know I eat a lot of kibble. You all might say I eat “too much” and that I “shouldn’t eat kibble for every single meal.” I’d like to argue with this: is there really such a thing as eating too much of something you enjoy? Life is so short – why shouldn’t I nom on as much of my beloved kibble as I can? Yeah there’s my health to consider and everything, but my kibble has all kinds of nutrients! It’s got chicken, beef, pork, and all sorts of vegetables.

But I do understand where the concern is coming from. As a dog, my diet is extremely important for my overall health and well-being yada yada yada. And while I may enjoy my kibble meals, it’s also important for me to have a balanced diet that includes other proteins and nutrients.

So, in an effort to appease both myself and my concerned readers, I’ve decided to set out on a cooking adventure. I am attempting- emphasis on attempting as I do not have opposable thumbs – to cook some of my own homemade dog treats. Don’t worry – I’ll still have plenty of kibble in my diet (because, let’s face it, nothing can ever quite replace it), but now I will also incorporate homemade meals and treats into my routine.

So far, I have found some great recipes for homemade dog biscuits made with peanut butter and pumpkin. I am excited to get cooking and see how it turns out. Here’s a peek at the recipe I will be using:

Homemade Peanut Butter Pumpkin Dog Biscuits

2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup of canned pumpkin
1/4 cup of peanut butter (preferably unsalted and unsweetened)
2 eggs
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
In a large bowl, attempt to mix together the flour, pumpkin, peanut butter, and eggs until well combined.
Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.
Cut into cute little shapes with a cookie cutter.
Place the treats on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
Let the biscuits cool before stuffing your face.


I hope these homemade dog biscuits will be delicious and provide the added health benefits to my diet you all so desperately think I need. Of course, I will not hesitate to dump the biscuits straight in the trash if they’re yucky. My standards are high! But paws crossed that this will be a successful cooking venture, and I can continue to share my culinary delights with you all. Until next time, happy eating!
