Social media. You’ve heard the term countless times. You know it refers to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snap, and so on. But what does it really mean when it comes to your business? How is social media marketing playing a role in you company’s growth? Or is it merely something you do because everyone else is doing it, too? Being actively involved in social media marketing is important, but it’s not enough just to be involved. You need to do it right.

Killer Social Mistakes

Companies make all kinds of mistakes with their social media activity, and these mistakes can be costly. So here’s what you need to avoid if you want your social to be successful.

Not Understanding Your Market – it’s not enough to simply know your target market. You must understand them, as well as their tendencies, their values and their habits.

Being Repetitive – If you are using multiple social platforms make sure you post unique content to your different accounts. While you can use the same subject, be sure to say things differently to each group of followers on each platform.

Promoting Fake News – the Internet is flush with fake news and it’s a growing problem. Make sure you avoid posting fake news or spreading it when someone else has posted it. Do a little research before you post, and error on the side of caution. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

Over Saturation – while it’s great to have a strong presence on social media platforms, you have to practice moderation. If you flood your followers with too many posts they will get tired of hearing from you. It’s best to keep your posts between three and six a day and make sure you’re not posting just for the sake of posting.

Bad Communication – remember, it is called “social media.” That means you need to be social. In other words, make sure you respond to comments as much as possible and communicate with your followers when they communicate with you. Additionally, if you receive negative feedback, do your best to respond appropriately.
