What Is Conversion Rate?

As defined by Wordstream, conversion rate is the percentage of visitors to your site who complete a desired goal. The higher the conversion rate, the better; conversion rate is indicative of users doing what you want, moving them further down the sales funnel and putting them closer to the ultimate goal of becoming a customer. 

Why You Should Care About Conversion Rate

The first reason that you should care about conversion rate is obvious: the higher your conversation rate, the more successful your online marketing campaign and, likely, the greater your profits. However, boosting sales isn’t the only reason that you should care about conversion rate. Other reasons why conversion rate matters include:

  • You can learn more about your audience. One benefit of understanding (and optimizing) your conversion rate is that doing so will allow you to create an even clearer picture of your target customer, what your target customer wants, and what motivates your target customer. By gaining this insight, you’ll be able to create content that is even more perfectly crafted and effective at driving leads.
  • You can outdo your competitors. As you set out to enhance your conversion rate and increase the number of users who engage with your brand in the specific way that you direct them to, you also start to take customers away from your competitors.
  • You can save money on marketing. The more people that you get to convert and the more effective your tactics are for doing this, the less money you’ll have to spend on each lead. For example, consider a situation where you are running a paid ad that drives users to a sales page on your website. Now, imagine the saved costs/enhanced profits if every single user who clicked that add became a sale. That’s the power of conversion rate optimization.
  • Your SEO will improve. Remember, you need search engines to get customers; the more effective your search engine optimization (SEO) efforts, the more customers on your site. But what you may not know is that the more customers who actually use your site, the more your visibility will improve. This, in turn, will enhance your SEO and move your website closer towards the top of the search results page.
