Which Trends Will Make A Splash in Web Design This Year?

Start 2016 With a Design Refresher

The New Year is here and that means it’s time to look at your website design. There are as many web designs as there are opinions in the world, but of course, not all opinions carry the same weight. Likewise, not all web designs are as effective as others. Now that 2015 is in the rearview mirror this is the perfect time to consider your web design and whether or not it is meeting your needs. As you do that you might wonder what new web design trends will be popular this year. While it’s impossible to predict the future exactly, there are several trends that will likely make a splash in 2016.

Navigate and Scroll

Navigation is an important part of every website, but no matter how many different ways you can set up your navigation bar or navigation tool, web designers continue to experiment with different ideas. Expect that trend to continue, as the search for the perfect navigation bar will go on this year. Along those same lines, how you navigate through an individual web page is also very important. Look for web designers to continue to try to perfect the scroll feature of websites. Long scroll is easier but it spreads the content out further. Short scroll gets right to the point but bounce rates can go up as well when very little scrolling is necessary. The search for the perfect balance will continue.

Flat Design Is Here to Stay

Another trend to watch in 2016 is design modules. More and more web designers are moving towards component and modular design in place of entire layouts. The components vary but they commonly include designing how features like the navigation and the search tools will be laid out. Meantime, responsive design is of course very important still and that won’t change this year. However, being mobile-friendly has also changed the way things look with most design elements being very flat in order to adapt to all screen sizes. This means you can expect things to continue to get flat, including images, icons and logos.

Give it a Personal Touch

One more thing to look for is upgraded visual content. Many websites will start moving away from stock photos and images and instead use personalized photos and videos that are unique to their website.
