  1. Categorize Your Business

After claiming your Google My Business listing, categorizing your business is the next step. By categorizing, you can help customers who are searching for the services and products you offer actually find your business. Once you’re correctly categorized, your chances of appearing in customers’ results increase. Use the “primary category” function to describe what your business does, and then use the “additional categories” function to get a bit more specific.

  1. Write a Business Description

The second thing that you should focus on is writing a business description. This is a great way to tell people about your business, and also an opportunity to integrate some keywords that your customers are looking for, which will improve your search engine rankings. 

  1. Don’t Forget About Photos!

Everyone knows that photos can attract potential customers more than text alone. According to Hootsuite, businesses that add photos to their Google My Business listing get about 35 percent more clicks to their website—a pretty powerful statistic. Choose photos that are high-quality, feature people, and that accurately reflect what your company does.

  1. Focus on Getting Reviews

Getting reviews can take a bit of work, especially at first. But reviews are money—a large percentage of customers will read reviews before visiting a business site or making a purchase with that business; if you don’t have reviews on your profile page, you could be missing out on a lot of customer engagement. There are many different strategies for getting reviews, including asking customers for reviews, incentivizing leaving a review, and showing that you’re interested by replying to reviews that you do receive.
