Additionally, personal search tools that are embedded in smartphones are also changing the way people search online. So focusing solely on Google won’t be enough.

There are several other SEO staples that could also be heading out the door, including desktop optimization, keyword-focus optimization and bulk link building. These have all been important to SEO for many years, but with the digital marketing world always in flux these might not have much importance by the end of 2016. Another favorite SEO practice has been to focus on quality written content. While written content will always be important, many companies will have to step up their game and add more video and interactive content in order to get to the top of the search engine chain and stay there.
